A British man, William Anthony Parker, has been found guilty of fraud and sentenced to two and a half years in prison by the District Court of Central Finland. Parker’s criminal activities involved hacking the computer systems of two unnamed online casinos, stealing a staggering €835,000.
Parker was apprehended by Finnish police in January 2024, suspected of using specialized software to infiltrate the casinos’ systems.
In addition to the prison sentence, Parker will face confiscation of all stolen funds.
The prosecution had initially sought a harsher sentence, pushing for more than three years of imprisonment for the fraudster. However, the court’s verdict is not final and can be appealed.
Earlier this year, we reported a 250% increase in online gambling fraud cases in the first quarter of 2024.
