Canadian rapper Drake lost $1 million after betting on a New England Patriots victory in the Super Bowl, the National Football League’s season finale. The musician disclosed the wager in advance, posting an image of the betting slip on social media. The bet was placed, as usual, through the Stake sportsbook platform.
Drake backed the Patriots at odds of 2.95, which would have returned approximately $3 million, including the stake, had the bet been successful.

His prediction, however, ran counter to market expectations. Ahead of the game, most analysts viewed the Seattle Seahawks as the Super Bowl favourites.
The championship game was played on February 8 and ended with a 29–13 victory for Seattle, leaving Drake’s wager on New England unsuccessful.
Gambling Park notes that Drake regularly places large bets on major sporting events. A significant number of those predictions have failed to materialise, a pattern often referred to in sports circles as the so-called “Drake curse.”
Occasionally, however, the rapper has enjoyed success. Last summer, for example, he won more than $562,000 after placing a successful bet on the final of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament.
