Former Barcelona and Manchester City forward, Sergio Aguero, netted a nearly $19k win from a bet placed on this Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final match. The match saw the Citizens face off against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Aguero, now retired, wagered that the total goals in the match would surpass 2.75.
His bet, with betting odds of 1.89, was accepted by the crypto bookmaker, Stake.com, for an amount of $10,000. Aguero shared his bet slip with his followers on Instagram.
As the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read 3:3, validating Aguero’s prediction and netting him $18.9 thousand.
Interestingly, Aguero’s choice of Stake.com for his wager wasn’t a shot in the dark. The retired forward has been promoting the brand as its ambassador since 2022. His high-stakes betting appears to be part of this promotional strategy.
