Nepal’s government has ordered the blocking of all betting websites and applications within the country, local outlet MyRepublica reported. The measure forms part of a 100-point reform plan approved by the cabinet on March 27.
Implementation has been assigned to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, which has already issued a directive to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA).
The regulator subsequently instructed internet service providers, and mobile operators, to restrict access to betting platforms within 24 hours.
According to the authority, at least 16 websites have already been identified for immediate blocking.
Betting, and its advertising, are already illegal in Nepal. However, in practice, online platforms have long operated with minimal restrictions, while enforcement by authorities has remained weak.
The new measures mark a shift toward enforcing the existing ban. Rather than introducing new restrictions, authorities are seeking to ensure compliance by blocking access at the operator level.
Gambling park previously reported that the blocking of 1xBet and Stake in Morocco had been temporarily suspended.
