Indonesia and Cloudflare Agree to Joint Efforts to Block Illegal Gambling Websites

According to CNBC Indonesia, Cloudflare has confirmed its willingness to cooperate with Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) on blocking illegal gambling websites. The ministry said it held an online meeting with representatives of the company.

During the meeting, Cloudflare agreed to review Komdigi’s requirements concerning site registration and content moderation.

The two sides also agreed to establish a dedicated channel for reporting illegal websites, enabling the ministry to track and control the spread of prohibited content more effectively.

“This meeting demonstrates that we remain committed to dialogue as we work to ensure compliance,” said Alexander Sabar, Komdigi’s Director General for Digital Space Oversight.

The ministry previously noted that service providers are given 14 working days to comply with obligations. Komdigi warned that failure to meet requirements may result in administrative measures, including blocking services within Indonesia. The agency stressed that such measures are mandated by law and will be applied in cases of non-compliance.

Indonesia has been intensifying its crackdown on illegal online gambling since 2023. Authorities have repeatedly reported large-scale website blocks, the removal of millions of gambling-related content items, and the freezing of bank accounts belonging to violating companies. Gambling Park earlier reported on TikTok being blocked in the country over livestreams featuring online-casino content.

Cloudflare is one of the world’s largest providers of web infrastructure services, including DDoS protection. While its tools are widely used by legitimate projects, illegal operators also exploit them to conceal server locations and bypass blocks. Komdigi said this week that more than 76% of banned gambling websites in Indonesia use Cloudflare for masking purposes.
