An Iranian court has sentenced rapper Tataloo (Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo) to death on charges of blasphemy, according to The Guardian.

Between 2018 and 2023, the musician lived in Istanbul until Turkish authorities handed him over to Iran. He was detained while attempting to leave Turkey using an expired passport.

Maghsoudloo had previously promoted gambling and was reportedly part of the Gambling Network arbitration team, a group based in Turkey.

His involvement in illegal gambling promotion initially led to a 10-year prison sentence in Iran.

However, the 37-year-old artist now faces the death penalty after authorities escalated the charges to include blasphemy. The case centers on alleged insults directed at the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. Additional accusations include promoting prostitution, publishing obscene content, and facilitating corruption.

It’s worth noting that the ruling is not final and can still be appealed.
