Police detained a group of elderly women for gambling in Prey Kup village, Poipet City
Cambodian police have detained a group of elderly women in a western Cambodian village for illegal gambling after local residents complained on social media, the Khmer Times reported.
According to police, the women spent most of their time playing cards, neglecting household duties, including childcare and cooking.
Stakes ranged from 500 to 1,000 Cambodian riel (approximately $0.12 to $0.25).
Following the raid, the women were not prosecuted. Instead, they were required to sign good conduct pledges and warned that repeat violations would result in legal action.
Under Cambodian law, gambling is generally prohibited for citizens. Land-based casinos are permitted but primarily target foreign visitors. Authorities regularly conduct raids to curb illegal gambling across the country.
Earlier, Gambling Park reported that Thailand plans to channel unclaimed lottery ticket funds into pension accounts.
