Aston Villa Football Club has decided to terminate its sponsorship contract with the betting company Parimatch, reports Mail Online. It is expected that other partners of the Ukrainian bookmaker in English football will follow suit soon.

The reasons for revising the partnership agreements stem from the sanctions recently imposed by the Ukrainian president’s decree. Besides Russian bookmakers, casino and lottery operators, some Ukrainian companies, including Parimatch, were also included in the sanction list.

Representatives of Aston Villa reached a mutual agreement with Parimatch to end their partnership as a result of constructive negotiations.

Currently, Parimatch’s sponsorship agreements with Chelsea, Newcastle, and Leicester remain in effect. However, their termination is expected in the short term. “The Blues”, in particular, announced a review of their contract with Parimatch several weeks ago.

Nevertheless, Chelsea and Newcastle will still host home matches this weekend, and Parimatch branding is expected to be displayed on LED billboards at Stamford Bridge and St. James’ Park. Previously, Parimatch had sponsorship deals with more than a third of English Premier League teams, but contracts with Brighton, Southampton, and Everton expired before the start of the current season and were not extended.
