A Nevada court has temporarily blocked Polymarket from operating in the state, the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) said.
The case centres on sports prediction markets, where users can buy contracts tied to the outcomes of matches and tournaments.
Polymarket describes itself not as a bookmaker, but as a platform for trading event contracts.
Nevada’s regulator takes a different view. It argues that if a user deposits money and receives a payout based on the outcome of a sporting event, the product effectively amounts to betting.
A judge granted the NGCB’s request for a preliminary injunction against Polymarket. The order is not a final ruling in the case, but a temporary measure while proceedings continue. The scope of the injunction will become clear once the written order is published.
The NGCB said it would continue to enforce state law and protect Nevada’s regulated gambling market. Similar restrictions have previously been imposed in Nevada on other prediction market operators, including Kalshi and Coinbase.
