In Nigeria, frustrated winners of a 1xBet holiday giveaway are accusing the sportsbook of backing out on its promised prizes. The local Foundation for Investigative Journalism took a closer look at the situation.
On December 19, 2024, the bookie rolled out the 1xBet Secret Santa promo. The rules were simple — users had to drop their 1xBet account IDs in the operator’s social media comments to enter. By December 30, 1xBet reached out to the lucky winners, telling them they’d scored brand-new PlayStation 5 consoles. Delivery was promised by January 10, 2025.
But the deadline came and went with no consoles in sight. Making matters worse, 1xBet stayed silent throughout January, offering no updates or explanations.
Eventually, one of the winners contacted 1xBet through social media, asking when the PS5s would be shipped. The response was unexpected — the terms had changed, the bookmaker claimed. Instead of consoles, winners would now get a cash payout credited directly to their 1xBet accounts. The company assured the funds would be immediately available for withdrawal, no wagering required.
That promise fell flat, too. Weeks passed, and while 1xBet told winners the transfers were “being processed”, no one received a dime — more than three months later, the money is still missing.
“This is starting to feel like a scam by 1xBet”, one frustrated winner said.
The Foundation for Investigative Journalism reached out to 1xBet for comment. A company rep responded curtly: “We do not disclose any information to third parties. The account holder must contact us directly using their registered email”.
However, several Secret Santa winners confirmed they’ve already done exactly that — multiple times. To date, the issue remains unresolved.
