BetMGM and Caesars are set to enter the Washington D.C. sports betting market on July 15, according to SBC Americas.

The two companies have been testing their sports betting apps throughout June and are now ready to compete in this new territory. This opportunity arose after the D.C. Council passed a new budget that allows for up to seven new online operators in the nation’s capital.

Both BetMGM and Caesars have paid a $5 million licensing fee to the state.

DraftKings thanked the Council “for taking a major step towards expanding mobile sports betting options in the District by approving changes to the District’s sports wagering framework as part of the Budget Support Act.”

“We look forward to the potential opportunity to introduce D.C. sports fans to our mobile sportsbook product,” said DraftKings in a statement, expressing its interest in seeking a license once available.

Fanatics, ESPN BET, and BetRivers are also expected to pursue licenses in the near future.

It’s important to note that until now, FanDuel has been the sole operator in Washington D.C.’s sports betting market, having launched earlier this spring.
