Corner Goals Hit 10-Year High Across Europe’s Top Five Leagues

Swiss sports technology company Sportradar has examined how the effectiveness of corner kicks has changed across Europe’s leading football leagues and the extent to which goals scored from corners affect team results. The findings are presented in its study Turning the Corner into Goals, released by Sportradar on August 24.

Sportradar analysts reviewed data from 10 seasons, from 2016/17 through 2025/26, covering the English Premier League, Germany’s Bundesliga, Spain’s La Liga, France’s Ligue 1 and Italy’s Serie A. For its 2025/26 club rankings, the company compared 96 teams based on the number of corners taken, goals scored from corners, attacking and defensive efficiency, delivery type and individual player statistics.

For most of the period studied, corner conversion rates remained relatively stable, with roughly one goal scored for every 28 corners.

In the 2025/26 season, that improved to around one goal for every 23 corners. The conversion rate reached approximately 4.4%, about 22% above the previous average.

The Premier League recorded the highest conversion rate, with around 5.5% of corners resulting in goals — roughly one goal for every 18 corners. The Bundesliga followed at just under 5%, or approximately one goal for every 21 corners.

Other findings from Sportradar include:

• Arsenal ranked first among all 96 clubs for overall corner efficiency, taking both attacking and defensive performance into account;
• Tottenham posted the best attacking corner conversion rate, scoring 20 goals from 209 corners, or 9.57%;
• Real Madrid had the strongest defensive record, conceding only two goals from 138 opposition corners, a rate of 1.45%;
• Inter recorded the best attacking corner conversion rate in Serie A, scoring 19 goals from 242 corners, or 7.85%;
• Casemiro and Virgil van Dijk scored the most goals from corners among players in Europe’s top five leagues, with six each;
• Freiburg’s Jan-Niklas Beste was the most efficient corner taker among players who delivered at least 25 corners, with 17.4% of his deliveries resulting in goals.

Sportradar also highlighted the growing popularity of inswinging corners. Their share across Europe’s top five leagues increased from 50.1% in 2023/24 to 65.5% in 2025/26.

Inswinging deliveries also proved more effective than corners swung away from goal.

According to Sportradar, goals from corners can have a significant impact on league standings. In a modelled scenario, corner goals that directly affected match results were worth 14 points to Arsenal. Without those goals, Manchester City would have won the Premier League title.
