The Dutch gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has published its report for 2022. The document contains information on the regulator’s main areas of work, including licensing and enforcement of gambling legislation.
During the reporting period, the regulator received 27 license applications, three of which were rejected.
Currently, 13 applications are still under consideration, and there are 24 active license holders. According to the regulator’s estimates, 85% of Dutch players are customers of licensed operators.
In 2022, gambling companies were fined a record amount of €29.7 million by the KSA. The fines were primarily imposed on offshore companies operating without a national license. However, two operators who accepted bets based on a Dutch license were also fined.
Enforcement of gambling legislation covered not only operators but also affiliated resources. At the end of 2022, KSA imposed fines on two websites affiliated with gambling companies for non-compliance.
The KSA report also includes information on the number of registrations in the self-exclusion gambling register Cruks. According to the regulator, more than 36,000 Dutch people are currently registered, compared to just 6,500 at the beginning of 2022.
Previously, the KSA reported cases of illegal gambling advertising on social media.
