The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), a pivotal regulator within the global gambling sphere, recently hosted its first-ever Sports Betting Integrity Conference. European Gaming highlighted the event’s significance, noting the attendance of influential sports organizations.
The conference’s guest list featured prominent organizations such as the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), the eSports Integrity Commission (ESIC), Genius Sports and Sportradar.
The gathering’s mission was to synergize stakeholder efforts to uphold sports and betting integrity, fostering a collaborative environment for sharing insights, experiences, and best practices to combat corruption.
In his keynote address, MGA’s CEO Charles Mizzi reaffirmed the regulator’s commitment: “As the MGA, ensuring the integrity of sports betting is not merely a regulatory obligation; it is a cornerstone of our commitment to fostering a fair and sustainable gaming environment.”
IBIA, a participant at the Malta conference, provided sobering data: 184 matches were flagged as potentially compromised in 2023.
