YouTube has announced stricter rules on the promotion of gambling content. According to CNN, all advertising for “unapproved” betting sites will be completely banned.
The new policy takes effect on March 19. From that date, YouTube will prohibit videos containing links, images, text, logos, or even verbal mentions of gambling platforms that do not meet Google’s criteria — the parent company of the video platform. Sites will be classified as “unapproved” if they fail to comply with local gambling regulations or have not been vetted by YouTube or Google.
Additionally, users under the age of 18 and unregistered viewers will no longer be able to access gambling-related content, regardless of whether the material is from an approved operator.
Videos that claim gambling offers a guaranteed way to make money will also be removed.
“We understand that these changes may impact creators focused on gambling content, such as online casino gameplay, but we believe this is a necessary step to protect our community, particularly younger viewers,” YouTube said in a statement.
