A Bet365 customer was left high and dry by referee Simon Hooper, who made a huge mistake during a Premier League game between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool. The customer had placed a $12 bet with 950-to-1 odds, hoping to win £9,500 (about $11,600).

The gambler posted a screenshot of their $12 accumulator bet with 950-to-1 odds on social media.

The only thing that stood between them and their jackpot was a goal by Luis Diaz. Diaz did score one in the first half, but the referee wrongly ruled it out for offside, changing the fate of both the game and the bet.

Experts later confirmed that Hooper made a huge mistake, but that was no consolation for the bettor.

The bettor told Sport Bible: “It would have changed my life. Me and my girlfriend are looking to buy a house and £10,000 would have helped us out so much. It’s heartbreaking that we’ve been let down by human error”.

The customer doesn’t blame Bet365, as the bet was settled according to the rules. However, it would have been nice if the bookmaker had shown some sympathy and offered some compensation for the customer’s pain, even if not the full amount. But it seems that the bookmaker is not feeling generous.

Meanwhile, the customer thinks that someone should pay for the blunder. And that someone is obviously referee Simon Hooper. But it’s very unlikely that the referee will care about the customer’s plight.
