The Dutch State Lottery, Staatsloterij, went above and beyond to find the owner of a €1 million ticket. They hired a plane to fly a banner over the town where the ticket was sold. And it worked, according to Hart Van Nederland.
The lottery operator had been looking for the winner since early July. But despite the media coverage, no one came forward.
So Staatsloterij decided to try something different. They figured the winner lived in Doetinchem, a small town of 55,000 people, where the ticket was bought.
They rented a plane and attached a banner with the message: “State Lottery looking for 1 million euros winner”.
The plane circled over Doetinchem for a while, drawing attention from the locals. Finally, the owner of the winning ticket claimed their prize.
This is not the first time Staatsloterij has used a plane to find a lottery winner. Last year, they did the same thing to locate a €12.8 million prize holder.
