Indonesia Cracks Down on Gambling Websites and Apps with Mobile Operators’ Help

The MCIT of Indonesia has announced a close collaboration with leading mobile operators in the country to block gambling websites and apps more effectively.

Gambling is banned in Indonesia due to religious reasons, and participating in online or land-based casino betting can land you in jail for four years.

The government and the mobile companies will join forces to ramp up the blocking of gambling sites and apps on users’ devices.

This is not the first time Indonesia has taken a hard line on banned content — over the last 5 years, it has blocked more than 800,000 gambling-related materials.
